Obamacare disaster

(Scott Johnson)
The uncreative destruction wrought by Obamacare on the economy commenced before it was adopted and has continued steadily through the promulgation of the regulations implementing the Rube Goldberg contraption wryly named the Affordable Care Act. Grace-Marie Turner provides an illustrative example in her Forbes column “It’s fact, not anecdote, that Obamacare is turning us into a part-time nation.”
Obamacare’s mandate to provide the costly health insurance compliant with the law applies to employers with 50 or more full-time employees. So employers have exerted themselves to stay under the magic numbers. Turner takes a look (and recognizes that “data” is the plural form of the noun):
Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that the ratio of part-time to full-time jobs has completely flipped this year from historical trends. Last year, six full-time jobs were created for every one part time job. This year, only one full-time job is being created for every four new part-time jobs.
The shift to part-time has accelerated over the past several months because of the “look back” provision in ObamaCare that sets the baseline this year for the number of full-time workers a company employs to determine their compliance with the employer pay-or-play mandate.
This is only one aspect of the law’s multifaceted destructive power. Turner touches on a few others:
A recently-leaked letter from Delta Air Lines to the Obama administration states that the “cost of providing health care to our employees will increase by nearly $100,000,000 next year,” much of it due to Obamacare.
The delivery giant, UPS, is cutting eligibility for spouses of employees who have access to health coverage elsewhere. It says that the costs the law imposes are forcing changes, citing the law’s research fee and a tax of $63 per member to help shore up the health exchanges. Other factors are the act’s ban on annual and lifetime coverage limits and its requirement to cover dependent children up to age 26, UPS said. The University of Virginia also is limiting spouse health benefits.
Forcing employers to provide health insurance that soaks up their profits or cuts into operating revenues causes a cascade of distortions. Clearly, the law already is resulting in layoffs, fewer hours, and reduced hiring. It may even force some businesses to shut down.
Obamacare is a fiasco, the consequences of which will (to borrow Churchill’s phrase) travel far with us along our road.
UPDATE: And then there is this, by Clara Ritger in National Journal: “Obama’s Affordable Care Act looking a bit unaffordable.”
A reader writes to add another related point:
I am writing to you because for now I am employed in the health care field. What was once a sure way to a successful life is one that is leaving us (the workers) fearful of our jobs. The pool of covered patients will grow but reimbursement is shrinking. It does not take a genius to figure out that we are heading toward doing more work with less people. The quality of care will suffer and the job satisfaction of the employees will as well. This impact, specifically the employment figures, is something that should be looked at and hammered on. Krauthammer’s statement of it taking over 1/6 of our economy sure is hitting home for me.

Dangerous and terrible for Israel

Israel surrounded and our leaders are on the wrong side
Today we see Egypt in chaos as violent protests erupt nationwide, while in the insufficiently policed Sinai, jihadists are mobilizing and posing increased threats to Israelis.

In Syria, more than 100,000 are dead in the country's escalating civil war, the regime's cache of chemical weapons at serious risk of falling into terrorist hands.

Meanwhile, to Israel's north and south, Hamas and Hezbollah have stockpiled more than 65,000 rockets on Israel's borders. And in Tehran, Iran’s leaders continue to call for Israel's destruction, while rapidly advancing a nuclear weapons program that could do just that.

These are events that demand attention now. But where is Obama, Kerry, Samantha Powers, Susan Rice? Backing the wrong sides, doing nothing. and Hillary's top aid is from a family full of Muslim brotherhood terrorists, and the scandal ridden Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Foundation has taken huge money from radicalized Arab sources. Makes you pretty sure President Hillary will be even worse for israel then B. Hussein Obama has been. . Read this and get scared for our future

Egypt’s Islamic Chaos, America’s Islamic Threat
August 24, 2013 by Alan Caruba 4 Comments

Obama Brother Muslim Brotherhood Ambassador Patterson Egypt SC Egypt’s Islamic Chaos, America’s Islamic Threat
The President who, in 2009, said he thought it unseemly to “meddle” in the affairs of Iran when protesters against its regime were being shot dead in the streets of Tehran, announced to the world on August 15, 2013 that he was angered by the killing of civilians in the streets of Cairo as the Muslim Brotherhood was busy burning Christian churches and homes when they weren’t firing on the Egyptian military that was attempting to end its efforts to impose Sharia rule.

Egypt may be thousands of miles away, but the intent of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) to destroy America (and, of course, Israel) is close to home as the President and his national security advisors have misled Americans as to the true intent and threat of the MB.
In his new book, “The Brotherhood: America’s Next Great Enemy”, Erick Stakelbeck reminds the reader that in February 2011, “the Obama administration’s Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, portray(ed) the Brotherhood as an Egyptian version of the Peace Corps.” At the time, the “Arab Spring” protests were in full swing; and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was on the verge of being overthrown. Clapper described the MB as a “largely secular” organization that has “pursued social ends” and a “betterment of the political order.” This was and is utter nonsense, a deception.
Clapper is rivaled in his ignorance of Islam by the current Director of the CIA, John Brennan, who is a well-known fan of Arabs and Islam. He routinely refers to Jerusalem by its Arabic name “Al-Quds” and has called jihad “a legitimate tenet of Islam,” extolling Islam as a faith of “peace and tolerance,” of “goodness and beauty,” that has “shaped (his) own worldview.”
The fact is that the Brotherhood has been repeatedly banned in Egypt, starting in 1948. In 1954, the MB tried to assassinate then-president Nasser and, as Stakelbeck notes, “The Brotherhood would be severely repressed in Egypt for most of the next five decades.” So even in a Muslim nation, the threat the MB represented was understood.
The battles in the streets of Cairo, Alexandria, and other Egyptian cities reflect the ultimate intent of Islam to dominate the governance of the Middle East and to establish a global caliphate. It is doubtful that most Americans realize the threat it poses more than a decade past 9/11.

For reasons that historians will puzzle over for years to come, Americans elected, not just the first black President in 2008 and, despite a record of foreign and domestic policy failure, reelected him in 2012. They elected a man who makes no effort to hide his deep sympathy and support of Islam.
During his June 2009 speech in Cairo, President Obama, the son of a Muslim and adopted son of a Muslim who had spent four years of his youth in Indonesia (an Islamic nation), had attended an Islamic school, and even gone to prayers at a mosque, said “I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States of America to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.”
Stakelbeck noted that “The Obama administration reportedly ‘insisted’ that ‘at least ten Muslim Brothers (who were then in opposition to the Mubarak regime) be allowed to attend the speech.’” Earlier, in January 2009, Obama gave his first formal interview as President to the Arabic-language network Al-Arabiya; and, as we all know, in April 2009 at the G-20 Summit in London, the President of the United States bowed to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia “as other Western leaders looked on in shock.”
Earlier, Stakelbeck had described “the bow” as a “shameless act of groveling, performed in one of his first forays onto the international stage” that “signaled that debasing America and exalting Islam would be key elements in achieving his oft-stated goal of improving America’s image in the Muslim world.” We are all witness to how well that has worked out.
“Just thirteen days after Islamic jihadists murdered four Americans in Benghazi; the president stood before the world’s leaders” at the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2012 “and uttered the now-infamous line: ‘The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.’”
Founded in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood is defined by its hatred of the West and of Jews. Stakelbeck warns that “The MB’s much-deserved reputation for violence, radicalism, anti-Americanism, and anti-Semitism is rapidly disappearing in the Age of Obama,” and that is why the struggle for a modern Egypt being fought there against the MB requires the full support of the United States as its military strives to drive its members and supporters from its streets. Obama’s response has been to take time from playing golf to denounce the current interim government that removed Muhammad Morsi from office.
What do you need to know about the Muslim Brotherhood? Consider its motto: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur’an is our law.  Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” It is devoted to imposing Sharia law on the world, a barbaric system that promotes beheadings, stoning, and discrimination against women and other religions.
“The Muslim Brotherhood”, notes Stakelbeck, “is now present in at least eighty countries, and according to one longtime Brotherhood leaders, boasts some 100 million adherents worldwide.”
It has long been active in the United States through a web of front organizations.
A demonstration of its utter contempt for America is a planned “Million Muslim March”  in Washington, D.C. on September 11 by the American Muslim Political Action Committee “to demand social justice by the U.S. government”, claiming that Muslims “continue 12 years later to be victimized by being made the villains.”
Despite 9/11, despite the murder spree by Major Nidal Hasan of solders at Fort Hood, and despite the Boston Marathon bombing, militant Muslims in America such as AMPAC’s spokesman, Isa Hodge, are claiming that “our government either sits idly by and does nothing to protect our freedoms or it exacerbates the problem with its constant war on terrorism in Islamic countries…” adding “These lies told to the American population have made it impossible for us to do true Dawa,” the practice of proselytizing or preaching Islam.
On September 11 in the nation’s capital, the lies Hodge has spoken will be repeated. Within them is hidden the greatest threat to the nation and the West, to Christians, Jews, and other “unbelievers.”
Stakelbeck warns that “We’ve neutered ourselves as a society and succumbed completely to a suicidal brand of political correctness imposed by the leftist gatekeepers of the media, the government, and academia. We’ve also just about dumbed ourselves down to the point of no return. And the Brothers know it.”
The threat that the Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda, and militant Islam poses will be like the smoke from an incipient forest fire wafting through the nation’s capital on September 11. Actual fires are burning in Egypt these days, and our enemies live and walk among us.

3 of Obama's big economic lies

3 Whoppers from Obama's Big Economic Speech
07/25/2013
President Obama sure was excited about his speech yesterday. He talked for more than an hour in sweeping, grandiose terms about everything that's happened since he became President, and everything that's still going to happen.

If only more of it were true.

Here are three major whoppers Obama tried to sell yesterday.

1. Obamacare is going great.

He's said this before, and each time, it's actually less true. To hear the President tell it, Obamacare is all about security, free things, and discounts.

But the daily march of Obamacare is bringing higher premiums, new taxes, and fewer choices. The Obama Administration has already delayed the employer mandate—only the latest in a string of delays and failures to implement the law.

In his speech yesterday, Obama said, "There are folks out there who are actively working to make this law fail." Nope, the law is failing just fine on its own. And that's why Congress should not fund it with taxpayer dollars.

2. I cut the deficit in half.

This was one of Obama's big first-term promises, so he would like to show that he's delivered on it. But this claim ignores the huge deficit he ran up during his first few years in office.

Congress had to pass Obamacare before we could see what was in it. Maybe Obama had to run up the deficit before he could cut it?

"Public debt doubled under his watch," says Romina Boccia, Heritage's Grover M. Hermann Fellow in Federal Budgetary Affairs. "Deficits projected at $642 billion by the Congressional Budget Office for this year are 'low' only when compared to their trillion-dollar-plus levels over the past four years. The U.S. deficit and debt situation actually worsened since before the recession."

3. Middle-class income is stuck in the '70s.

The President paints himself as the savior of the middle class—and it's the nefarious 1 percent he's going to save us from, so he has to drive a wedge between the classes.

His claim: "The income of the top 1 percent nearly quadrupled from 1979 to 2007, while the typical family's barely budged."

But in fact, incomes across the board have been rising. Heritage's David Azerrad dispatches Obama's falsehood:
According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, after-tax income has risen for all Americans, albeit by very different margins, during this timeframe. For those in the middle three quintiles—i.e. the "typical families"—income has increased by almost 40 percent.

As Ron Hasking and Scott Winship of the Brookings Institution conclude: "There is no disappearing middle class in these data; nor can household income, even at the bottom, be characterized as stagnant, let alone declining."

American workers today are more productive and better compensated. Their problem is a lack of jobs. And for that, we have President Obama's policies to thank.

Are left wing anti drilling people financed by Arab oil money?

We have the ability to tap into huge amounts of energy here, enough to make is energy independent.
Worldwide terrorism is financed by Arab oil revenues we send.
Stop buying Arab oil and severly limit worldwide terror.
Who would be opposed to this? Opec.
So why are Democrats and Obama so opposed to getting all the energy we can? We can do it in an environmentally ok way.
Are the left wing environmental groups being funded by Arab oil money?

(Steven Hayward)
Middle Eastern potentates have been acknowledging their nervousness over the hydrocarbon revolution that has seen American domestic oil production increase by 2 million barrels a day over the last two years, with much more to come as cutting edge American technology spreads around the world.  OPEC’s days as the drivers of the global oil market may be in eclipse, especially if global demand for oil peaks, as has been forecast recently.
So if you’re a Middle Eastern country and you want to do something to slow this up, one thing you might do is try to funnel money to environmental organizations that want to stop fracking and keep land closed to new hydrocarbon production.  We already saw Chesapeake Energy give over $25 millionto the Sierra Club to fight against coal so as to increase demand for its natural gas.
Is there any evidence that Middle Eastern nations are funneling money to enviros?  Not that I know of.  But then there’s this story from the Free Beacon:
Liberal Foundation Distributed Money from Bermuda to Liberal Nonprofits
A major left-wing foundation has received tens of millions of dollars from a shadowy Bermudan company with ties to wealthy American hedge fund managers and distributed those funds to prominent liberal nonprofit groups.
A sizable portion of the Sea Change Foundation’s revenue since 2011 has come from a single company, incorporated in Bermuda, called Klein Ltd. The company’s only officers are employees of a Bermuda law firm, and neither provided information on what Klein actually does.
Documents filed with the Bermudan government suggest that the company exists only on paper.
The money Klein has donated to Sea Change has been passed on to some of the largest liberal and environmentalist groups in the United States, including the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Center for American Progress (CAP).
CAP, which attacked the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 2010 for supposedly using foreign money for political purposes, has also received fundsfrom the Bermuda-based Atlantic Philanthropies, as has its 501(c)(4) arm, the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

Tim Scott: Obama Blocking Jobs with Energy Policy

President Barack Obama is "out of touch" because he does not take seriously the jobs that would be created through the proposed Keystone XL pipeline project, South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott said Saturday.

“The President is so out of touch with unemployed Americans that he thinks tens of thousands of Keystone XL construction jobs are a ‘blip,’ and ‘not a jobs plan,’" the senator said in Saturday's GOP address, in which he slammed Obama's strategy for energy production.

"Opening access to responsible energy production will lower prices, create jobs, grow our economy, decrease dangerous dependence on foreign oil and lower the deficit by adding much needed revenue to the Treasury," Scott, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said.

Editor's Note: ‘This Wasn’t an Accident’ — Experts Testify on Financial Meltdown

But Obama is blocking efforts being made through his committee, Scott said, and the EPA is also hindering opportunity.

“Meanwhile, the new head of the EPA [Gina McCarthy] said she doesn’t want to talk about jobs anymore as she writes new job killing regulations that will put tens of thousands of Americans out of work," Scott said. “That’s not leadership."

Instead, Scott said, Obama's "failed leadership" on the nation's energy policy will cost all Americans more "when you buy food at the grocery store, take a family vacation, or turn your air conditioner on this summer."

But the government is wasting billions of taxpayer dollars trying to pick through the energy strategy, Scott said, and "this mindset disproportionately affects lower-income Americans, as energy costs consume a quarter of after-tax income for families making $30,000 or less."

It doesn't have to be this way, said Scott.

"When it comes to resources, no nation on Earth has more options at its disposal than America," he said. "Oil and natural gas alone support over 9 million American jobs and contribute more than $1 trillion to U.S. GDP per year."

However, the Obama Administration has "actively blocked and delayed" new energy production, which continues the nation's dependence on dangerous foreign countries, Scott said.

The Keystone pipeline is one such way the administration is blocking energy production, along with jobs.

"The Administration continues to block projects such as the Keystone XL pipeline, which could support 40,000 new jobs," Scott noted.

Further, energy production is down on federal lands and waters, he noted.

"When President Obama took office in 2009, nearly all of our offshore areas were newly open to American energy production," the senator said. "Today, President Obama has effectively re-imposed an offshore moratorium, blocking access to American oil and natural gas resources, preventing the creation of tens of thousands of American jobs and continuing our reliance on foreign oil.

Blocking offshore drilling is hindering job growth, said Scott, pointing to his own state, where offshore drilling would have the potential to create more than 7,500 new jobs and bring in $87.5 million in new state revenue, creating a statewide impact of more than $2.2 billion annually.

But on private lands, energy permits can be approved in just a few weeks, compared to more than 300 days for public lands becuse of "President Obama's anti-energy red tape."

“The cost of that delay means less job creation, less economic activity and less American energy," said Scott.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has a plan to jumpstart the economy with energy, "instead of playing politics" with it, said Scott.

“We want a true all-of-the-above energy strategy, because a diverse, market-based energy portfolio of nuclear, wind, solar and other renewables means more competition and lower prices for consumers," said Scott. "Republicans will work to stop government policies that are driving up energy costs preventing businesses from hiring new employees."
